Bosch EDC17CP (CP57, CP58, CP60, CP62, CP65, CP68, CP74): bench connection for Mercedes, KIA, Ford, Volvo and Volkswagen

The EDC17CP units are the most common Bosch diesel ECUs on Mercedes-Benz, KIA, Ford, Volvo and Volkswagen. The manual gives a bench connection diagram for each of them, to be used when the ECU is out of the vehicle.

Procedure

1. Read the label and pin down the exact designation: EDC17CP57 TC1793 (Mercedes-Benz), EDC17CP58 TC1767, EDC17CP60 TC1793 (Mercedes-Benz), EDC17CP62 TC1793 (KIA), EDC17CP65 TC1793 (Ford), EDC17CP68 TC1797 (Volvo), EDC17CP74 TC1793 (Volkswagen).
2. Check that the Tricore microcontroller matches the one the manual lists for that designation: that is the check which stops you applying the wrong diagram between two very similar CP units.
3. Open the manual page for the designation you found and use the bench connection drawing ("Bench connection") as your reference for the points to wire.
4. Build the loom on the ECU connector following the pin numbering in the drawing exactly, respecting the wire colours shown.
5. Connect power to the ECU on the bench and check the voltage before connecting the AVDI: the ECU has to stay stably powered for the whole read.
6. Connect the AVDI and start the read from the software; once the read is finished, save the original file and keep a separate copy of it.
7. Only write after you have confirmed the file you read is complete and sound, leaving the bench connection untouched for the whole operation.
