A collection of bench connection diagrams for the Bosch MED17.9.x, MEG17/MEDG17, MEV17.2 and MEV17.4, MEVD17.4.4 and EDC17U01 ECUs. You need this when the ECU has to be read or reprogrammed off the vehicle with the ECU Programming Tool.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • alimentatore da banco 12V
⚠ WarningThe MEDG17.0 TC1797 (Ford) is listed in the manual as "BSL only": there is no bench route without the BSL jumper, so do not attempt a read with power and CAN alone.

Procedure

  1. Read the Bosch label and note both the system designation and the microcontroller: MED17.9.3 TC1793 (Honda), MED17.9.7 TC1797 (Jaguar, Land Rover), MED17.9.63 TC1793 (Suzuki), MED17.9.30 TC1793, MEG17.9.12 TC1762 (Kia), MEG17.9.21 TC1724, MEDG17.9.8 and MEG17.9.8 TC1767 (Hyundai, Kia), MEV17.2 TC1766/TC1796, MEV17.4 TC1766, MEVD17.4.4 TC1793 (Peugeot), EDC17U01 TC1766 (Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen), MEDG17.0 TC1797 (Ford).
  2. Open the ECU and locate the diagram for your variant on the manual page: each photo shows the power, ground and data line points on that specific board layout.
  3. Make the bench connection (12V+, GND, data lines) exactly on the points given for your variant and check continuity before applying voltage.
  4. On the MEVD17.4.4 TC1793 and the MEDG17.0 TC1797, add the "BSL connection" jumper shown in the photo: that is the point which puts the microcontroller into boot mode.
  5. For the MEV17.2 TC1766/TC1796 and MEV17.4 TC1766 use the dedicated "Bench connection" diagram: they are the only two in the list explicitly described as a bench connection.
  6. Connect the AVDI, start the ECU Programming Tool, select the ECU and always open the session with a full read saved as a backup, before any writing.
