On Subaru models from 2021-2023 the body network (B-CAN) does not reach the OBDII socket: for Key Learning internal CAN the CB012 has to be connected directly to the B CAN_H and B CAN_L lines. The diagrams in the manual show, model by model, which modules sit on that network and which pins the two lines arrive on: Body Integrated Unit, Central Gateway, Keyless Access CM, instrument cluster, headlight beam leveller, mirrors and others.
⚠ WarningThe B-CAN is separate from the diagnostic CAN: connecting to pins 6 and 14 of the OBD socket is no use. Always check the wire colour and pin on the diagram for your model before piercing a wire (CAN_H and CAN_L colours differ from one model to another) and work with a power supply connected. The diagrams are in the images below: open them full screen to read the connectors and pins.
Procedure
Legacy/Outback 2023+ (diagram 7.1.1): the B CAN lines arrive at the Body Integrated Unit on connector B73, pins Q17 (B CAN_H, wire R) and Q19 (B CAN_L, wire L); the same signals pass through the Front Relay Control Module B68 (A8 = CAN_H, A9 = CAN_L), the Keyless Access CM i92 (B30 = CAN_H, B29 = CAN_L) and the instrument cluster i97 (A6 = CAN_H, A7 = CAN_L).
Legacy/Outback 2023+ (diagram 7.1.2, second part of the network): from the Central Gateway i88 (pins 5 and 6) the B-CAN continues to the right-hand mirror i107, climate control St1, seat ventilation St41, tailgate L84 and seat memory St42: each module has a B CAN_H / B CAN_L pair marked on the diagram.
Forester 2023+ (diagram 7.1.3): same logic, with Central Gateway, Keyless Access CM, Driver Monitoring, instrument cluster, mirrors, Front Relay Control Module, headlight beam leveller and Body Integrated Unit on the B-CAN; the pins can be read by zooming in on the diagram.
Forester 2021-2023 (diagram 7.1.4): the diagnostic socket (Data Link Connector) only carries the diagnostic CAN to the BIU (pins 6 and 14 -> K24/K25). The BIU's B-CAN is on Q17 (CAN_H, wire W) and Q19 (CAN_L, wire B) and goes to the Keyless Access CM i241 (B30 = CAN_H, B29 = CAN_L), the instrument cluster i10 (A6 = CAN_H, A7 = CAN_L), the MFD (19/20), the audio/navigation unit (C9/C10) and the headlight beam leveller B616 (15 = CAN_H, 16 = CAN_L).
Impreza/Crosstrek 2023+ (diagram 7.1.5): B-CAN from the Central Gateway (pin 5 = CAN_H, 6 = CAN_L) to the instrument cluster i97 (A6/A7), Keyless Access CM i92 (B30/B29), Driver Monitoring i87 (3/4), climate control i107 (A1/A2), Front Relay Control Module B68 (A8/A9), headlight beam leveller B78 (15/16) and Body Integrated Unit B73 (Q17 = CAN_H, Q19 = CAN_L).
Choose the easiest point to reach (usually the Body Integrated Unit or instrument cluster connector), identify the two wires by the colours on the diagram and connect the CB012: CAN_H to the CAN_H wire, CAN_L to the CAN_L wire.
Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket and to the PC, open Abrites Diagnostics for Subaru and carry on with the "Key learning internal CAN" procedure (Alarm OFF, Smart System Reset, Key Registration).
When finished, disconnect the CB012, refit the connectors and clear the DTC generated by the connection.
