Two checks to always carry out before programming a key: how many keys are already registered and, if the customer has lost one, erasing all keys except the one in use. It applies both to vehicles with a mechanical key (Immobilizer/BCM) and to those with a smart key.

⚠ WarningErasing requires a working key: if the vehicle has none, you must first program a key and only then use "Erase all keys". After erasing, all the customer's other keys stop working permanently.
Procedure
Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket, ignition ON, and start "Abrites Diagnostics for Subaru".
From the main screen open the special function that matches the platform: "Immobilizer" for vehicles with a mechanical key and an Immobilizer or BCM unit, "Smart Access System" for vehicles with a smart key.
Select the key count ("Current key count" in the Immobilizer menu, "Registered key count" in the Smart Access System menu): the window shows how many keys are currently programmed.
Compare the figure with the maximum allowed: 4 keys for vehicles with a mechanical key and Immobilizer or BCM unit, 8 keys for smart systems. If the limit has been reached you must erase the keys before you can add more.
To erase, insert into the ignition lock the working key the customer wants to keep (on smart systems, instead hold the key against the start button without switching the ignition on).
Select "Erase all keys" and confirm with "yes" when the software asks.
Follow the on-screen messages to the end of the procedure: all keys are removed except the one in use, which is left as the only working key.
Run the key count again to confirm a single registered key, then go on to "Key Registration" to add the new keys.
