Bosch EDC17C06, C41, C50, C56, C76 and ME17.2 (BMW and Mini): bench and BSL connections, and the correct board side

A collection of connections for the Bosch ECUs on BMW and Mini, including the ME17.2 units on BMW motorcycles. For the EDC17C56 the manual gives two connection options on opposite sides of the board and states which one to prefer.

Procedure

1. Identify the designation from the label: EDC17C06 TC1766 (BMW), EDC17C41 TC1797 (BMW, Mini), EDC17C50 TC1797 (BMW, Mini), EDC17C56 TC1797 (BMW), EDC17C76 TC1793 (BMW); for motorcycles, ME17.2 BMS-X TC1797 and ME17.2.4 TC1793.
2. Open the matching manual page and check whether the "BSL connection" section appears under the entry: it is provided for EDC17C50, EDC17C56 and EDC17C76.
3. For the EDC17C56 go with Option 2 on the back of the board, which the manual flags as the recommended route; use Option 1 on the front only if your board layout forces it.
4. Open the ECU and orient the board as in the drawing: the manual states front or back side, so check a visual reference (connector, Tricore chip) before locating the points.
5. Wire or solder to the points shown, respecting the wire colours given in the diagram.
6. Reassemble just enough to work safely, power the ECU on the bench and connect the AVDI.
7. Start the read from the software; if you are working in boot mode, make sure the BSL connection is in place before reading.
8. Save the file you read out and keep it as the original before any write.
