Reading the PIN from the engine ECU on the bench with the CB013 cable and ZN074 power supply (e.g. Continental VD56.1)

When the PIN cannot be read either from the BSI or over OBDII, the engine ECU is removed and read on the bench with the CB013 cable. It is also the route used on vehicles with VSM in all-keys-lost cases. The manual gives the connection diagram for the Continental VD56.1.

Procedure

1. Remove the engine ECU from the vehicle and take it to the bench.
2. Connect the ECU to the CB013 cable following the pinout for that type of control unit (the manual gives the connection diagram for the Continental VD56.1) and the instructions in the "ECU Programming Tool User Manual".
3. Supply power with the power adapter from the ZN074 set and check the connection before switching the voltage on.
4. Connect the AVDI, open the software and select the vehicle.
5. When the scan is finished, select the ECU module.
6. Open the module from the diagnostic menu and select the correct ECU type from the menu.
7. Select the "Read PIN" menu on the left-hand side and follow the on-screen instructions.
8. If there are no working keys, select the "AKL" option when prompted: make sure you do this.
9. Wait for completion: the procedure can take up to 1 hour.
10. Once you have the PIN, save it for later use.
11. Refit the ECU to the vehicle, start the normal Key Learning procedure and enter the PIN manually to program the keys.
