Continental BSI 2015+: reading the PIN, EEPROM read/write, BSI exchange and Set PIN

Procedure for the Continental BSI units on PSA vehicles from 2015 onwards: reading the PIN, reading and writing the EEPROM and replacing the BSI with a spare unit. On these units the software may have to reflash the BSI before it can read the PIN or change any data.

Procedure

1. Connect the AVDI to the OBD-II socket with an external power supply hooked up. Before touching anything, read and save the original EEPROM and the PIN code from the BSI currently on the car.
2. Open "Read security code", use "AUTODETECT" for vehicle identification and press "Read".
3. If the software warns you that the BSI has to be reflashed, confirm: the operation is needed in order to continue.
4. The software reads the EEPROM automatically, then writes the flash to the unit.
5. Once the flash write is finished, the software resumes the PIN search and displays it on screen. Note it down and save it.
6. Fit the replacement BSI and repeat the same steps on it: read the PIN and read the EEPROM of the new unit.
7. Open "Read/Update ConfData", load the original EEPROM file you saved earlier and write it to the replacement BSI.
8. If the EEPROM needs unlocking (on 2015+ models it is locked), in the "Read/Update ConfData" menu change the lock bytes to "11 11 11 11": in the manual's screenshot they are the bytes underlined in red.
9. To set the PIN: open the unit in diagnostics, click "Other", choose "Set PIN", enter the new PIN and click "OK". The software confirms that the PIN you entered has been programmed.
10. Once the unit has been made virgin you can put the original PIN back. Then reprogram the existing keys so that the remote and engine start work again.
11. Test the keys: if they do not work, reprogram them in the ignition slot (IGN slot). After a BSI exchange it is good practice to always re-learn the keys so the engine can be started.
