Engine Control Unit: reading/writing Configuration Data and ECU flash, IMMO OFF and after sales preparation (EDC, SID)

This is the special function dedicated to the engine ECU: it reads, saves and updates the Configuration Data and the ECU flash over OBD. From here you read the PIN, calibrate the instrument cluster, perform IMMO OFF and after sales preparation so the unit can be used on another vehicle, as well as updating service lists.

Procedure

1. Connect the AVDI to the OBD-II socket and feed the vehicle from a stable external power supply.
2. Open the "Special functions" tab and select the Engine Control Unit function.
3. Before making any change, read the ECU Configuration Data and save it to file: that is your safety backup.
4. From this same function you can read the vehicle's PIN code and use it for instrument cluster calibration and for any other operation that requires it.
5. For IMMO OFF and for after sales preparation of the unit (which makes it usable on another vehicle), use the relevant entries in the function, once the original has been saved.
6. To update the ECU's service lists use the same function: it reads, edits and writes the data back to the unit.
7. For the flash: reading the ECU flash is available over on-board diagnostics (OBD). You can read it, save it to file and update it — also useful for tuning purposes, since a wide range of ECU models is supported, including the EDC and SID families.
8. Once the writing is finished, check that the car runs correctly and check the fault memory; viewing and clearing the BSI and ECU error history is done from the main diagnostic menu.
