The Opel/Vauxhall software has no dedicated unit replacement function, but the AVDI can still be used to adapt units. The route depends on the vehicle generation: first generation on K-Line, or second and third generation on CAN with six modules synchronised to each other.

⚠ WarningOn the third generation, replacing the ECU sometimes calls for rewriting the flash: that operation is NOT supported by the AVDI. Changing the VIN in the replaced module is not fully supported either and only works on some modules: weigh these limits up before taking the job on.
Procedure
Identify the vehicle generation by checking the communication channel detected during the scan: K-Line for the first generation (examples: Vectra B, Zafira A), CAN for the second (examples: Astra H, Corsa D, Zafira B) and for the third.
First generation (K-Line): the ECU and the immobiliser are synchronised to each other; the unit exchange is carried out from the diagnostics menu.
First generation: if you have replaced the ECU, go to diagnostics > immobiliser > adaptation or synchronisation, run the procedure and the two units will work together again.
Second and third generation (CAN): bear in mind that six modules are synchronised, namely ECU, BCM, instrument cluster, ABS, airbag and EPS; touching one affects the whole set.
Second and third generation: if the module is new or virgin, it is accepted straight away for adaptation, so fit it and carry on.
Second and third generation with a used unit: get hold of the PIN code from the donor car, otherwise you cannot work on the module.
With the donor PIN, reset the PIN code, which makes the unit "virgin".
Fit the virgin module to the car and turn the ignition ON: the module synchronises itself with the car.
When that is done, write the host car's PIN code into the module, as the procedure requires.
Run the scan again, check the identification of the six synchronised modules and clear the DTCs generated during the adaptation.
