Reading the Security Code (PIN) from an Opel/Vauxhall, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC control unit

The Security Code is needed for any immobiliser-related operation. Normally you get it from the Car Pass or ask the dealer: this function extracts it straight from the car, cutting the dealer out. It is the mandatory first step before programming keys.

Procedure

1. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle and to the PC, turn the ignition ON and start the Opel/Vauxhall software.
2. Open the "Special Functions" list at the bottom of the main screen and launch "Read Security Code" by double-clicking it, or by selecting it and pressing "Open" to the right of the list.
3. Select the make (Opel/Vauxhall, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC) and the vehicle model.
4. Select the control unit to extract the security code from: the list of available units changes with make and model and is updated with every new software version.
5. Press "Read" and wait for the read to finish without interrupting communication.
6. When the read is done the code appears in the "Security Code" field: write it down, you will need it for key programming and module adaptations.
7. If the model is not on the list, check the full list of supported vehicles in the software menu or on the Abrites website and webstore under the dedicated licence.
8. Go straight to the "Key Learning" screen: the PIN you have just read is already carried over into the corresponding field.
