Reading and clearing DTCs on Opel/Vauxhall

Opel Interface Classic Diagnostics Basic ⏱ 10 min 8 steps

Reads the fault codes of the selected control unit with description and occurrence count, analyses them and clears them. Use it at the end of a repair and as a check that the fault does not come back.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningIf a DTC comes back on the second read after clearing, the problem is still there: it needs to be investigated and repaired, not just cleared again.

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI, ignition ON, and open "Abrites Diagnostics for Opel/Vauxhall".
  2. Run the module scan from the main screen.
  3. Double-click the module you want to analyse to open its menu.
  4. Press "Read DTC": the software shows the list of fault codes with their description and occurrence count (how many times they have occurred).
  5. Analyse the codes and their occurrence count to trace the cause of the fault and carry out the repair.
  6. With the repair done, press "Clear DTCs" to clear the control unit's codes immediately.
  7. Read the DTCs again: if a code comes back, the fault is not fixed and needs revisiting.
  8. If you need to clear the whole car, go back to the main screen and use the global DTC clearing across all modules.
