Bench wiring diagrams for BMW ECUs (MSD80/81, MSD85/87, MSV90, MEVD17.2.9)
BMWInterface NewAppendixAdvanced⏱ varies8 steps
A collection of bench connection diagrams for the most common BMW ECUs. Some units have to be read on the bench in boot mode and therefore need to be opened; others do not require a boot mode read and are easily wired up with the ZN051 Distribution Box.

⚠ WarningOn the MEVD17.2.9 the wiring is NOT the same for both reads: reading the TPROT password and reading the DFlash need different connections. Do not use the same diagram for both.
Procedure
Check the type of unit: some BMW ECUs have to be read on the bench in boot mode and therefore need opening; others can be wired on the bench without boot mode.
For ECUs that do not need boot mode, use the ZN051 Distribution Box following the wiring diagram for that unit type.
MSD80/MSD81: wire up according to the dedicated diagram in chapter 13.1.
MSD85/MSD87: wire up according to the dedicated diagram in chapter 13.2.
MSV90: wire up according to the dedicated diagram in chapter 13.3.
MEVD 17.2.9 - reading the TPROT password: connect T1, T2, CH and CL as per the diagram in chapter 13.4.
MEVD 17.2.9 - reading the DFlash: rewire the unit connecting the BOOT PIN as per the diagram on page 68.
Double-check the connections before powering up the unit, then go ahead with the read from the software.
