Renewing Volvo keys with the ABPROG adapter: PCB soldering and PCF writing

Volvo Interface Classic Keys / Immo Advanced ⏱ 30-60 min 9 steps

With the ABPROG adapter you can renew Volvo key PCBs and return them to virgin state, ready to be programmed to another car. The procedure requires soldering the adapter wires to the contact points on the key PCB. (The manual chapter states ZN046; the index says ZN045.)

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • ZN046 ABPROG
⚠ WarningThe procedure requires direct soldering to the contact points on the key PCB: use a temperature-controlled iron with a fine tip so you do not lift the pads or damage the circuit. For the wiring detail refer to the ABPROG user manual.

Procedure

  1. Open the key shell and take out the PCB, locating the contact points intended for soldering (see the manual photos showing the points on the PCB and the PCB already soldered).
  2. Solder the ABPROG adapter wires to the PCB contact points. For detailed connection information consult the ABPROG user manual.
  3. Connect the ABPROG adapter to the AVDI as shown in the manual illustration.
  4. Start the ABPROG software.
  5. From the drop-down menu select the "PCF" option and then the PCB model you are working on.
  6. With the options set, press "Program" to start the key renewal and return it to virgin state.
  7. Confirm the prompt by clicking "Yes" to start the renewal process.
  8. Wait for the "KEY Write finished successfully" message: the key has been renewed.
  9. Desolder the wires, refit the PCB into the shell and go on to program the key to another vehicle.
