Reading the Volvo airbag ECU memory and clearing crash data

Volvo Interface Classic Airbag Advanced ⏱ 20-40 min 8 steps

The "Airbag" special function reads the airbag ECU memory and clears the crash data. It is particularly useful when the module is being replaced: you can read the data, save it to file and load a file back into the module.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningAlways save the memory you read to file before clearing the crash data. Before working on the airbag system make sure the system is in a safe state and that every component damaged in the impact has been replaced.

Procedure

  1. Make the vehicle safe and check that the pyrotechnic components and damaged wiring have been replaced before resetting the module.
  2. Plug the AVDI into the OBDII socket and turn the ignition ON with a stable power supply.
  3. Start Abrites Diagnostics for Volvo, select the vehicle and open the special functions menu.
  4. Select the "Airbag" function with a double-click.
  5. Read the airbag ECU memory and save the content to a file on the PC straight away.
  6. Run the crash data clearing on the module.
  7. If the module is being replaced you can load a previously saved file into the new module using the file upload option.
  8. When finished, cycle the ignition off and on, run a DTC scan of the SRS system, clear the codes and check that the airbag light goes out as it should.
