⚠ WarningOlder Volvos with the L-Shape CEM, the XC90 for example, are NOT supported. Only HITAG2 keys with ID xxxxxx9x can be used and the CEM will only accept unlocked (virgin) HITAG2 transponders. The CEM unlock procedure is very long and can run for several hours: guarantee a stable power supply throughout.
Procedure
Check that the vehicle is among the supported models and CEM part numbers: 6G9T-14C256-GG / HE / HF, 7G9T-14C256-FA / GA, AG9T-14C256-HC, BG9T-14C256-FB / GA / HA, CG9T-14C256-FA.
Plug the AVDI into the OBDII socket, turn the ignition ON and give the vehicle a stable power supply (the procedure can run for hours).
Start Abrites Diagnostics for Volvo, open the special functions menu and select "Key Learning": you will be asked to select the vehicle if you have not already done so, then the PATS menu opens.
From the drop-down menu choose the option matching the job in hand (smart key programming, for example) and press the "Execute" button.
Follow the on-screen messages: the CEM unlock starts, which is the long phase of the procedure.
If you have to stop, press the "STOP" button on the right-hand side of the window: the procedure can be resumed later on the same computer from where you left off, without losing the progress already made.
When the software asks for it, insert a new (unlocked) key into the key slot. The key count shown on screen must go up and the new key ID appears in the log.
Repeat the insertion for every key you want to program, until the on-screen counter shows the number you want, then stop the procedure: the keys are already programmed and the log confirms it.
Note the transponder SK (secret key) from the log, 6 bytes long.
If you have a transponder locked by this CEM and want to reuse it, unlock it with the PROTAG and program it again.
Test every key: starting, central locking/unlocking and, on keyless cars, keyless entry.
