Volvo Module Initialization: initialising a second-hand PATS module

Volvo Interface Classic Keys / Immo Advanced ⏱ 20-40 min 7 steps

The "Module Initialization" option, in the drop-down menu of the "Key Learning" special function, is used when a PATS module is replaced. The second-hand module is programmed together with the vehicle's other modules so the car works as it should again.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningThe replacement module must be the correct one for the vehicle: fit a compatible unit before launching the initialisation.

Procedure

  1. Source and install on the vehicle the second-hand PATS module suited to that car.
  2. Plug the AVDI into the OBDII socket and turn the ignition ON with a stable power supply.
  3. Start Abrites Diagnostics for Volvo, select the vehicle and open the special functions menu.
  4. Enter "Key Learning" and, from the drop-down menu, select the "Module Initialization" option.
  5. Start the function and follow the instructions the software gives on screen: they are specific to the module and the vehicle.
  6. When it is done, switch the ignition off and back on: at the next power-up all the modules synchronise with each other.
  7. Run a full scan, clear the DTCs generated during the operation and test starting and the immobiliser functions with every key.
