Using the AVDI with the Bombardier Utility Diagnostic System (BUDS)

Strumenti Interface Classic Diagnostics Medium ⏱ 20-30 min 8 steps

With the passthru driver the AVDI becomes the communication interface between the Bombardier BUDS software and the vehicle. It is used for diagnostics on Bombardier vehicles when you do not have the original interface.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo USB
⚠ WarningThe latency timer of the COM port on which the AVDI is recognised must be set to 1, otherwise communication with BUDS is not reliable. If you are working in a virtual machine, the AVDI must be connected to the VM and not to the host.

Procedure

  1. Make sure you have a PC (or a virtual machine) with the BUDS software already installed and working.
  2. On the same system install the "SetupInterface_xxxxxx_PASSTHRU.exe" file supplied for your interface (xxxxx is your AVDI number).
  3. If you have an MPI system number during the passthru driver installation, enter it in the field provided by the installer.
  4. Go to "START -> Programs -> Abrites Software for IDxxxxx -> ABRITES PassThru Driver" and run "SetPassThruBUDS.exe" on the same computer or virtual machine where BUDS runs.
  5. In the installer's drop-down menu select your interface ID number and press "Install".
  6. Wait for the confirmation message: it means the passthru driver for your interface is installed and working correctly.
  7. Set the latency timer of the AVDI's COM port to 1.
  8. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle, start BUDS as administrator (right-click the .exe -> "Run as administrator") and check the BUDS communication indicator to confirm that it is really talking to the vehicle before starting diagnostics.
