Using the AVDI with Fiat Examiner Smart HD (emulator and CAN/K-Line pinout)

Strumenti Interface Classic Diagnostics Medium ⏱ 15-20 min 6 steps

The Examiner Smart HD Emulator connects the EXAMINER SMART HD diagnostic software, which runs in a virtual machine, to the vehicle through the AVDI. It is the way to do Fiat diagnostics with Examiner without the original interface.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo USB
  • PC con macchina virtuale
⚠ WarningThe third-party application must be started as administrator (right-click the .exe -> "Run as administrator"). Do not start diagnostics until the emulator shows the "Connected" status: while it shows "Waiting for connection..." the software in the VM is not connected to the vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Install the Abrites passthru driver and check that the AVDI is properly connected (for use in a VM, attach the interface to the virtual machine).
  2. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle's OBDII port. The supported protocols are CAN, that is BCAN and CCAN on OBD2 pins 6 and 14 and on pins 1 and 9, and K-Line on OBD2 pin 7 with Keyword 2000.
  3. Start the Examiner Smart HD Emulator application as administrator: it will show the "Waiting for connection..." status while it looks for the connection to the virtual machine.
  4. Start the virtual machine with EXAMINER SMART HD.
  5. Wait for the emulator status to change from "Waiting for connection..." to "Connected".
  6. With the "Connected" status the EXAMINER SMART HD software in the virtual machine is ready and you can diagnose the vehicle.
