Where to read TDCi injector codes and which Ford models use injector programming

Quick reference to work out which Fords injector programming applies to, how many digits the code has on each engine, and how to read the original code label fitted to the engine.

Procedure

1. Check vehicle applicability. Injector programming is available on: Fiesta 1.6 TDCi from 2004; Focus 1.8 TDCi 2001-2005; Focus 2.0 TDCi 2001-2005; new-shape Focus 1.6 TDCi from 2005; Focus C-Max 1.6 TDCi from 2005; Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 2000-2006; Mondeo 2.2 TDCi 2000-2006; Transit 2.0 TDCi 2000-2005; Transit Connect 1.8 TDCi 2002-2006; Transit 2.4 TDCi 2000-2005.
2. Check the engine code where quoted: FFDA/F9DA/F9DB, FIFA, HJBA/HJBB/HJBC/FMBA/N7BA, H9FA.
3. Establish the code length: the 1.6 TDCi has an 8-digit calibration code stamped on the injector body; 1.8, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 TDCi have a 16-digit code stamped on the body.
4. If the injectors fitted are still the original ones, the codes can be read off the label stuck to the side of the engine or on the rocker cover (if it has not already been removed).
5. Read the label: the first line has the format X1111111122222222X, where 11111111 is the code of injector 1 and 22222222 that of injector 2; the second line X3333333344444444X holds the codes of injectors 3 and 4.
6. Remember that injectors are numbered in physical order on the engine, not in firing order.
7. The codes describe the electrical and structural characteristics of each injector as set in production: the PCM has to know them to drive the injectors correctly, cut emissions and improve performance.
