Reading mileage and clearing the odometer on FEM/BDC (Clear Mileage) and resetting the cluster on incremental EEPROM

BMW Interface New Odometer Advanced ⏱ 30-60 min 7 steps

Lets you view the mileage data and, on FEM/BDC units, clear it with the "Clear Mileage" function. The counters may only be calibrated for module replacement purposes and only in compliance with local legislation.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • programmatore EEPROM
⚠ WarningIt is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to supply 13.6 Volts or more: an external power supply is mandatory for these procedures to complete properly. The FEM/BDC module has to be prepared/unlocked before using the function. Some BMW models have an incremental EEPROM which does not allow odometer values to be changed via OBDII.

Procedure

  1. Connect an external power supply and check that the voltage is 13.6V or higher.
  2. Connect the AVDI and use the software's mileage display function to read the data.
  3. To clear the mileage on FEM/BDC: first prepare the module as described in the EWS Manager procedure.
  4. Go to "Keys And Start Synchronization" > "EWS Manager" > "EWS Functions" menu and select "Clear Mileage": from there it is a one-click solution.
  5. If the model has an incremental EEPROM and the values cannot be changed via OBDII, remove the instrument cluster.
  6. Read the cluster EEPROM with a programmer and zero it by erasing the first two lines of the EEPROM.
  7. Refit the cluster: once zeroed, it will take the odometer values from whichever module holds the highest value.
