KP001: standalone Volvo HITAG2 key programming from the OBDII socket

Volvo Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ 4-5 hours (non-keyless) / about 10 hours (keyless) 9 steps

The KP001 is the standalone Volvo key programmer: it plugs straight into the OBDII socket, with no extra cables and no computer, and handles both adding keys and programming in an all-keys-lost case, without erasing the keys already programmed. It saves you sitting in the car for hours waiting for the CEM to be prepared.

⚠ WarningThe procedure takes about 4-5 hours on non-keyless models and about 10 hours on keyless ones: the vehicle stays connected for all that time, so check the battery condition before starting. The key to be programmed must be compatible with the vehicle you are working on.

Procedure

  1. Check that the model is among those supported with HITAG2 keys (keyless and non-keyless versions): V40 (2012-2019), V60 and V60 Cross Country (2010-2018), V70 (2007-2016), S40 (2011+), S60 and S60 Cross Country (2010-2018), S80 (2006-2016), XC60 (2008-2017), XC70 (2007-2016).
  2. Get a correct key compatible with the vehicle: with the right key the procedure gives no trouble.
  3. Plug the KP001 device into the vehicle's OBDII socket: no extra cables and no PC connection are needed.
  4. Check that the LED blinks slowly in green: it means the device has started working.
  5. Leave the device connected and wait: about 4-5 hours on non-keyless cars, about 10 hours on keyless ones.
  6. When the LED blinks fast in green the car is ready to accept a NEW key. The car can stay in this state until the following day, so you are not forced to act immediately.
  7. Insert the new key into the car's key slot.
  8. When the LED goes solid green the key is compatible with the car and has been programmed successfully.
  9. Test the key: starting and access functions. Keys programmed previously stay valid, the device does not erase them.
