Using the AVDI with BMW Rheingold ISTA-D (and INPA) in a virtual machine

Strumenti Interface Classic Diagnostics Medium ⏱ 20-30 min 7 steps

Rheingold ISTA-D can be used with the AVDI by installing the passthru driver inside the virtual machine that hosts the software. The same procedure applies to INPA.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo USB
  • PC con macchina virtuale
⚠ WarningThe passthru driver must be installed inside the virtual machine, not on the host, and the AVDI must be connected to the VM via shared USB: if the interface stays attached to the host, ISTA-D will not see it.

Procedure

  1. Start the virtual machine with Rheingold ISTA-D installed.
  2. Connect the AVDI to the virtual machine using the shareable USB function of the virtualisation software.
  3. Install the Abrites passthru driver inside the virtual machine.
  4. Run the passthru configuration icon ("Passthru config").
  5. Select your AVDI number using the "PT" option, where XXXXXX is your interface ID.
  6. Start ISTA-D as administrator: the software is ready to work through the AVDI.
  7. Exactly the same procedure applies to INPA.
