Setting up the AVDI with BMW EDIABAS, INPA, WINKFP, NFS and NCS Expert

Strumenti Interface Classic Flashing / Programming Advanced ⏱ 20-30 min 7 steps

With the PassThruD drivers for BMW-EDIABAS the AVDI becomes the interface used by the whole EDIABAS chain: INPA for diagnostics, NCS Expert and NFS for coding, WINKFP for programming. The setup is done once by editing EDIABAS.INI.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo USB
⚠ WarningIn the PassThruD configuration the 115200 baud box must be ticked, otherwise communication will not work. When you copy the files from "\Program Files\BMW AG\PassThruD" to "\EDIABAS\BIN" do not copy the "EDIABAS.INI" file: overwriting it wipes out the existing configuration.

Procedure

  1. Start from a system with EDIABAS already installed and working.
  2. Download and install the latest passthru drivers for BMW-EDIABAS (for example pttbmw_2.1.0.0.exe).
  3. Run "START -> All programs -> BMW PassthruD x.x.x.x -> PassthruD Configuration".
  4. Select your AVDI interface and tick the box for 115200 baud.
  5. Copy all the files from the "\Program Files\BMW AG\PassThruD" folder into the "\EDIABAS\BIN" folder, with the exception of the "EDIABAS.INI" file.
  6. Open "\EDIABAS\BIN\EDIABAS.INI" with "NOTEPAD" and replace the line "Interface = STD:...." with "Interface = STD:passthrud", then save.
  7. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle's OBDII port and start INPA, NCS Expert, NFS or WINKFP as administrator: they will use the AVDI as the EDIABAS interface.
