Renewing used PCF (HITAG) keys with the ZN046 adapter and ABPROG

The ZN046 renews an already-used key and brings it back to virgin state, so it can be programmed to another car. It works on all keys with a PCF processor: it's the go-to tool for the locksmith who wants to reuse salvaged keys instead of buying new ones.

⚠ WarningThe adapter has to be soldered directly to the contact points on the key PCB: solder to the wrong point and the key is ruined. Renewal only works between keys of the same HITAG generation, so you can only use a HITAG key on another HITAG car if the generation matches.

Procedure

  1. Open the key and identify the PCB: the ZN046 supports all keys with a PCF processor (full list in the product's "Compatibility" tab, pinout in the "Technical specifications" tab).
  2. Locate the solder points on the PCB according to the model. The manual carries photos of the points for: Porsche HITAG keys (new Porsche keys), Audi BCM2 keys, BMW F-Series 1st type keys, BMW F-Series 2nd type keys, BMW E-Series keys, Volvo keys and PSA keys.
  3. Solder the ZN046 wires to the points you've located. For reference, the manual shows an already-soldered PCB from a BMW F-Series HUF key.
  4. Connect the male DB25 end of the ZN046 to the female DB25 connector on the ABPROG ZN045.
  5. Connect the male DB15 end of the ZN045 to the female DB15 connector on the AVDI, and the AVDI to the PC.
  6. Start the ABProg software and from the "Select" menu choose "PCF", then pick the exact PCB model of the key you're renewing.
  7. Press "Program" to start the renewal and confirm with "Yes".
  8. Wait for the "KEY Write finished successfully" message: the key has been renewed and made virgin, and you can go on to program it to another car.
  9.   10. If the software has no wiring diagram for your key, email support@abrites.com with your AVDI ID and a photo of the key showing its product version.
