Reading the EWS3 dump on BMW E46/E39/E53 with the ZN055 adapter

The ZN055 reads the dump from the BMW EWS3 module so you can program a key, without having to fall back on third-party EWS3 programmers. The dump you read is then loaded into the PROTAG software to cut the key.

⚠ WarningThe hook-up has to follow the connection diagram and the Boot Pin shown on the EWS: the module only goes into read mode with the boot pin correctly driven.

Procedure

  1. Check the vehicle is supported: BMW E46, E53, E85, E83, E39, E38 and E52 fitted with the EWS3 module.
  2. Remove the EWS3 module and open it on the bench.
  3. Connect the ZN055 wires to the EWS3 following the manual's connection diagram, including the Boot Pin on the EWS.
  4. Connect the ZN055 to the ABPROG ZN045 programmer, the ZN045 to the AVDI and the AVDI to the PC.
  5. Start the ABProg software and read the EWS3 dump with "Read".
  6. Save the dump to the computer with "Save".
  7. Load the saved dump into the PROTAG software and program the key from that dump.
