MODI Basic Diagnostics: module scan, reading/clearing DTCs and live data

The Basic mode of MODI Mobile Diagnostics scans all the vehicle's control units, reads and clears fault codes and shows module identification and live sensor values. It is the vehicle-safe mode, designed to be usable even with limited technical knowledge.

Procedure

1. Plug the MODI into the OBDII port, turn Bluetooth on and press "Connect" in the MODI Mobile Diagnostics app, then select your device from the list.
2. If you just want to get familiar with the interface, use the "DEMO" button: it shows an example of how it works without needing the MODI plugged into the vehicle's OBDII port.
3. Select the vehicle make: the MODI starts automatic vehicle identification.
4. Alternatively, without an application subscription, you can use the "Generic OBD2" option with the MODI connected: it lets you scan some modules and read and clear DTCs. Compatibility depends on the manufacturer and is not guaranteed on every vehicle.
5. Choose "Basic Diagnostics": the interface scans the modules and reports the number of fault codes present in the system as well as the status of the control units.
6. Open an individual module to read its fault codes with the additional information, plus the control unit identification.
7. To clear the fault codes for the whole vehicle press the "Clear all" button at the bottom of the phone display. To clear only those of one control unit, go into that module and clear from there.
8. For live sensor values go into the live values: the MODI supports live data on almost all scanned modules. You can view them in list view or graph view.
9. If you need to document a road test or a comparison, save the value readings to a file using the dedicated function.
10. Remember: only clear the codes after you have noted down or exported the starting situation, otherwise you lose the vehicle's fault history.
