When the BMW software cannot virginize a ZF 8HP, the ECU Programming Tool does it by working on the Data Flash on the bench. You need this to fit a used gearbox or EGS to another vehicle and then be able to adapt it.
Required licences
EP003
Hardware / cables
AVDI
ZN079
alimentatore 12V
⚠ WarningYou are working on the TCU's Data Flash: the file you read at the start is the only backup you have. Save it and keep it before you generate and write back the virginized file.
Procedure
Check you have the EP003 licence active: that is what enables unit reading/updating, Make Virgin and the ISN functions on ZF 8HP units fitted to BMW.
Remove the TCU and connect it on the bench with the ZN079 cable set and the AVDI, following the sequence ZN079 onto the TCU, then power, then AVDI, then start the software.
With the ECU Programming Tool, read the Data Flash of the ZF 8HP unit and save the data to file: this is your original backup.
Open the file you have just read in the software's "Dump tool".
Press the "Virginize" button: the program generates a new file, which you must save separately under a name that distinguishes it from the original.
Go back to the write function and write the new file into the unit.
Once the write is finished the EGS is in virgin state: fit the unit to the vehicle and carry on with the adaptation procedure.
