SKIM: vehicle selection, reading the 4-digit PIN and backing up immobiliser data

Fiat/FCA Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ 15-30 min 8 steps

The SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer System) used by Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep requires a 4-digit PIN for any work on the keys. The PIN is printed on the vehicle's purchase invoice, but if that is not available the software reads it directly from the SKIM module.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo OBD-II
⚠ WarningBefore programming or erasing keys, save the data read from the SKIM module to file: it is the only way to go back if something goes wrong.

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI to the OBD-II socket and switch the ignition ON.
  2. Go into the Special Functions menu and double-click the Immobiliser "SKIM" function.
  3. On the screen that opens select the correct vehicle. If you are not sure of the model, check the Part Number printed on the SKIM module and pick the vehicle whose Part Number matches.
  4. Alternatively select "AUTODETECT": the software will look for the best match on its own.
  5. Press the "Select" button to confirm your selection and get to the key operations menu.
  6. If you already know the vehicle's PIN, type it into the "PIN Code:" field: from that point you can go straight to the "Program a Key" and "Erase Keys" buttons.
  7. If the PIN is unknown, press "Get Values": the software reads the PIN Code from the SKIM module and displays it on screen. Note it down and keep it with the vehicle's job card.
  8. Use the save-to-file function to back up the module's data before any key programming or erasing.
