Read/Update ConfData: reading and writing control unit EEPROM data over OBD-II

Fiat/FCA Interface Classic Flashing / Programming Medium ⏱ 20-40 min 7 steps

The "Read/Update ConfData" Special Function reads the configuration data (EEPROM) of the modules listed in the drop-down menu over OBD-II, saves it to file and lets you write it back. It is the basis for backups, data transfer and module replacement.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo OBD-II

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle's OBD-II socket and switch the ignition ON.
  2. From the main screen go into the Special Functions menu and double-click "Read/Update ConfData".
  3. Open the drop-down menu and select the module you want to work on from the supported ones.
  4. Start the ConfData read for that module and wait for it to finish.
  5. Save the data read to file straight away: this is your backup of the original EEPROM, keep it before making any changes.
  6. To write, load the file you want into the software and start the write to the unit.
  7. Once the write is complete, read the ConfData back and compare the result with the file you wrote, then check that the module works with the ignition on.
