Recovering a FEM/BDC after a failed procedure (reflashing module 40 and rewriting the coding)

If an error message appears during a FEM/BDC procedure, the module is left in boot loader state and disappears from the main diagnostic menu: it has to be brought back to its original state with a reflash and by rewriting the coding that the software saved automatically.

⚠ WarningThe procedure only fails when the conditions are not met. Supply the car with a constant 13.6 Volts or more. When the software tells you to disconnect the AVDI from the OBDII and then disconnect the car battery, it is essential to do it in THAT order. NEVER unplug the AVDI from the PC's USB port during the procedure.

Procedure

  1. Establish the cause of the error: if the module has disappeared from the main diagnostic menu, the FEM/BDC has been left in boot loader state.
  2. Connect an external power supply that guarantees a constant 13.6V or more.
  3. Open the "Programming" menu and reflash the FEM/BDC selecting "Module 40 FEM Body".
  4. Once the reflash is finished, go to the diagnostic menu and open "Module 40 FEM".
  5. Write the coding that the software saved automatically during one of the FEM/BDC procedures: the file is located in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\ABRITES software for ID 17XXXX\BMW\VINofYourCar.ncd
  6. Check that the FEM/BDC is visible again in the diagnostic menu and that the body functions respond normally.
  7. For next time: follow every on-screen prompt of the FEM/BDC procedures to the letter, step by step.
