FEM/BDC adaptation: replacing the module with or without a readable donor unit

BMW Interface New Keys / Immo Advanced ⏱ 60-90 min 9 steps

Procedure for adapting a FEM/BDC module to a vehicle, typically when the unit is being replaced. The software runs as a wizard, so you simply follow the on-screen prompts. There are two scenarios: the original unit is still readable, or the original unit is not available.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • PROTAG
  • alimentatore esterno
⚠ WarningThe unit you are adapting must be in virgin state, so always start from the Virginize procedure. Once the adaptation is done you still have to program a key, otherwise the vehicle will not run. If you use "Save short immo data" for the backup, bear in mind that this short data does not contain everything needed and you will have to enter the ISN, VIN and unit frequency manually.

Procedure

  1. CASE 1 - ORIGINAL UNIT AVAILABLE AND READABLE (even if only partly working): go into "EWS Manager Functions" and use "Save EWS Data" to save the original unit's EWS data to file, using either the DME/DDE ISN or a working key.
  2. Prepare the donor unit using the EWS Manager procedure.
  3. On the donor unit use "Restore EWS Data" and write the file saved from the original unit. The function first makes the unit virgin and then writes the selected backup.
  4. Result: the donor unit becomes identical to the original, the working keys stay valid and the car is ready to start.
  5. CASE 2 - ORIGINAL UNIT NOT AVAILABLE (car without FEM/BDC and a donor unit on hand): start the EWS Manager procedure and prepare the donor unit.
  6. Once the EWS Manager functions are available, run "Virginize" on the donor unit.
  7. Open "Keys and Start Synchronization" > "EWS Parts Adaptation" > "FEM/BDC Adaptation" and adapt the virgin donor unit to the vehicle.
  8. Follow the software prompts and, when asked, enter the vehicle's ISN and VIN.
  9. When finished, program a key to the vehicle with the Program Key procedure, otherwise the car will not start.
