Backing up and restoring immobiliser data (Save/Restore EWS Data) on FEM/BDC/CAS4

This lets you save all the immobiliser data from an original FEM/BDC/CAS4 (VIN, key information, frequency type) and transfer it to a used module taken from a donor car. Once the data has been transferred, the donor module works exactly like the original: no adaptation and no new key programming are needed, and a key can be ordered from the dealer for that vehicle.

Procedure

1. Connect the AVDI to the vehicle (or to the bench) and start the Abrites Diagnostics for BMW/Mini software.
2. "Prepare/unlock" the ORIGINAL FEM/BDC/CAS4 (the one from the donor car's counterpart, i.e. the original vehicle) by starting the procedure from "Keys and Start synchronization" > "EWS Manager".
3. With the module prepared/unlocked, select the "Save EWS Data" option from the "EWS Functions" menu.
4. Choose how to save the immo data from the module: "DME/DDE ISN" if you have the ISN, which you enter manually before saving to file; or "Working Key" if you have a working key for the vehicle, which you use to let the procedure continue and save the file.
5. Avoid "Save short immo data" if you need the file for a full module adaptation: that file does not hold the car's complete immo data.
6. Save the immobiliser data backup file to a safe folder.
7. "Prepare/unlock" the NEW FEM/BDC/CAS4 (the one from the donor car) by starting the same procedure on it from "Keys and Start synchronization" > "EWS Manager".
8. With the module prepared/unlocked, select the "Restore EWS Data" option from the "EWS Functions" menu and load the file saved at step 6.
