On E series the ZF 8HP EGS is synchronised only with the DME/DDE. The adaptation is not automatic: you need the donor car's DME/DDE (or a dump of it) in order to copy the EGS ISN into the original DME/DDE.

⚠ WarningThe procedure is not automatic and absolutely requires the donor car's DME/DDE or a dump of it: without that the adaptation cannot be carried out.
Procedure
Take the donor car's DME/DDE and connect it on the bench in Boot mode.
Open the Boot mode function of the BMW/Mini Online software and read the unit (procedure described in chapter 3.2.5.2 of the manual).
Once the read is complete, press "Advanced info" and copy the EGS ISN.
If you already have a dump of the donor DME/DDE, skip steps 1-3: open the Boot mode function, load the dump with "Load" and press "Advanced info" to read the EGS ISN.
Read the car's original DME/DDE in Boot mode.
Press "Advanced Info" on the original DME/DDE and set/paste in the EGS ISN copied from the donor unit.
Write the data and refit the unit: the 8HP EGS is now adapted.
Alternative method: take both the DME/DDE and the EGS from the donor car and adapt only the DME/DDE, since the EGS is synchronised solely with the DME/DDE.
