Component protection generation 2: virgin + learn module

Generation 2 component protection is the one used by most modules in A6/Q7/Allroad 2004+. It is used to adapt a used module (instrument cluster, airbag, comfort module, EZS-Kessy, infotainment, DSP, climate control) to another vehicle. On A6/Q7/Allroad 2004-2008 the airbag, cluster, comfort module and EZS-Kessy are adapted entirely over OBDII, while other modules (e.g. DSP, Climate Control) require the gateway EEPROM dump from the car the module was taken out of; on A4/A5/Q5 2007-2014 the instrument cluster is adapted; on A6/A7/A8/Touareg 2010+ the cluster and infotainment are adapted without reading EEPROM or flash, but the original cluster and infotainment must be available.

Procedure

1. Start the "Component protection generation 2" special function: the system is scanned and all modules with component protection available are listed.
2. Select the module you want to adapt from the list. The procedure runs in two steps: "Reset to virgin state" and "Learn module to the vehicle".
3. Step 1 - Reset to virgin state: in the selection window specify how to proceed: by reading the module over OBDII (available for instrument cluster, airbag, comfort module and EZS-Kessy), by loading the module's EEPROM dump (available for airbag and EZS-Kessy), or by loading the gateway EEPROM dump from the car the module was taken from.
4. Wait for the operation status window: at the end the module is in virgin state and can be adapted to any car.
5. Step 2 - Learn module to the vehicle: obtain the gateway EEPROM dump from the car you are fitting the module to.
6. Choose whether to read the gateway EEPROM over OBDII or to load a dump read with a programmer. Reading over OBDII normally takes 3-4 minutes but involves reflashing the module; once the gateway has been reflashed, subsequent EEPROM reads no longer require the reflash.
7. Once the EEPROM data has been read or loaded, the component protection adaptation is carried out. When the operation completes successfully the module is fully functional.
