Suzuki and Yamaha outboard engine diagnostics with AVDI and the VCI emulator (K-Line type 1)

Strumenti Interface Classic Diagnostics Medium ⏱ 15-20 min 7 steps

The Suzuki and Yamaha outboard diagnostic systems do not use the classic J2534 driver but the VCI emulator included in the Abrites software, which simulates the original K-Line interface. It is what you need to connect the AVDI to these two marine diagnostic packages.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • cavo USB
⚠ WarningThe third-party software must always be started as administrator (right-click the .exe file -> "Run as administrator"), otherwise it cannot talk to the VCI emulator.

Procedure

  1. Make sure the Suzuki Outboards Motors Diagnostic System or the Yamaha Outboards Motors Diagnostic System is already installed on the PC.
  2. Connect the AVDI to the PC via USB and to the outboard engine.
  3. Open the folder where the Abrites diagnostic software is installed and run the "VCI emulator".
  4. Wait for the interface to connect to the emulator software.
  5. From the emulator's drop-down menu select the first type of K-Line emulation mode (VCI emulator type 1): this applies to both Suzuki and Yamaha.
  6. Leaving the VCI emulator running, start the Suzuki Outboards Motors Diagnostic System (or the Yamaha Outboards Motors Diagnostic System) with right-click -> "Run as administrator".
  7. The software is now ready for use and communicates with the engine through the AVDI.
