Writing the VIN into a control unit with "Change ID"

This lets you change the chassis number (VIN) stored in the selected control unit, typically after fitting a unit that came from another vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Connect to the control unit you want to write the VIN into (double-click the entry on the main screen).
  2. Press the "Change ID" button: the VIN editing window opens.
  3. The field shows the VIN read from the gateway if you are connected to the vehicle; if you are not connected to the vehicle the field stays empty.
  4. Enter in the field the VIN you want to write into the unit (any value can be set).
  5. Press "OK" to write the new VIN into the control unit, or "Cancel" to leave it unchanged.
  6. The result of the operation is shown in the main window: check it before disconnecting.
  7. Read the identification back with "Extended Identification" to confirm the VIN written is the correct one.
