CAN instrument cluster 911 997, Boxster 987 and Cayman: ConfData, mileage reading and cluster reset

Special function for the CAN instrument cluster on the 911 997, Boxster 987 and Cayman: it lets you read and rewrite the cluster configuration data, read the mileage value and carry out a diagnostic reset of the unit.

Procedure

1. From the main screen open the special functions list and select "Instrument Cluster CAN" (double-click or the "Open" button).
2. In the "Select vehicle model" list pick the model: for this procedure 911 997 (2005-2010), Boxster 987 (2005-2010) or Cayman. The same list also contains Panamera (2010-2012), Cayenne (2011+), Macan, 918 Spyder, 911 991 and Boxster/Cayman 981.
3. In the "Select function" list choose "Read/Write ConfData, Read mileage value, Reset cluster" and press "Open": the software opens the diagnostic session with the instrument cluster.
4. Press "Read ConfData" to read the cluster configuration data: the contents are shown in the hex window.
5. Press "Save to file..." to save the contents of the hex window to a binary file. Always do this as a backup of the original.
6. To write data back, first load it into the hex window with "Load from file..." or edit it directly, then press "Write ConfData" to update the cluster configuration data.
7. In the mileage section press "Read" to read the current value stored in the cluster.
8. If the unit needs a diagnostic reset press "Reset": the cluster resets and restarts.
9. When you're done, read the ConfData back to verify the write and run a fault read on the cluster.
