Reading transponder/immo data from a working key with the TA26 on the 911 997 and Boxster/Cayman 987 (spare key)

Porsche Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ approx. 3 min (plus preparation and key learning) 10 steps

If you have a working key for the Porsche, the TA26 Extractor reads the transponder/immo data from the original key and lets you add a spare key without removing any modules. You need PROTAG connected to the PC, an internet connection and an active AMS.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • PROTAG
  • TA26
  • cavo OBDII
⚠ WarningPROTAG, an active AMS and an internet connection are required: without them the procedure won't start. Reading the data isn't enough on its own: you still have to prepare the new key as a dealer key and relearn the original key together with the new one to the vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Connect the PROTAG to the PC, check you have an internet connection and an active AMS, and allow around 3 minutes for the read.
  2. Start "Abrites Diagnostics for Porsche" and open the "Key Learning" special function.
  3. Select the model of the vehicle you're working on and click "Read transponder data from working key".
  4. Switch the ignition ON with the original key.
  5. Put the original key into the programmer.
  6. Put the TA26 into the programmer.
  7. Switch the ignition ON 32 times, holding the working key and the TA26 together.
  8. Put the TA26 back into the programmer: the software runs the calculation and confirms "Transponder data read successfully".
  9. The transponder data stays cached on the computer. Now prepare the new key as a dealer key with the relevant function.
  10. Carry out the key learning, relearning the original key together with the new one and selecting the second option "Use transponder data read from working key".
