Preparing a HITAG2 dealer key for the 911 997 and Boxster/Cayman 987

Porsche Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ 10-20 min 8 steps

When you don't have a key ordered from the dealer for a 911 997 or Boxster/Cayman 987, this function lets you prepare a virgin HITAG2 key or transponder and make it ready to be learned to the vehicle.

⚠ WarningThe key is only prepared: after this procedure you still have to learn it to the vehicle with the "Teach keys" function. You need the correct transponder password and transponder secret key, otherwise the prepared key will not be accepted.

Procedure

  1. Connect the Abrites programmer (Tag programmer / PROTAG) to the PC.
  2. Start "Abrites Diagnostics for Porsche" and open the "Key learning" special function.
  3. Select the model "911 997", "Boxster 987" or "Cayman 987".
  4. Select the "Program dealer key" function and press "Next".
  5. Enter the 6-digit (3-byte) transponder password and press "Next".
  6. Enter the 12-digit (6-byte) transponder secret key.
  7. Put the new virgin HITAG2 key/transponder into the Tag programmer.
  8. Press "Next": the key/transponder is written and is ready to be learned to the vehicle with the "Teach keys" function.
