Long Coding: editing the long coding parameters of Porsche control units

"Long Coding" lets you change the parameters held in the control unit's long coding string, to enable or disable vehicle functions and options. Each parameter you change updates the coding string, which then has to be written to the module.

Procedure

1. Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket and start "Abrites Diagnostics for Porsche Online".
2. In the diagnostic menu select the control unit whose coding you want to change.
3. Open the "Long Coding" function: the software reads and shows the long coding string currently in the module at the top, with the list of decoded parameters below.
4. Copy or photograph the original coding string before changing it: it is the only safe way to restore the starting configuration.
5. Change the parameter you are interested in from the list: the software automatically updates the long coding string according to your choice.
6. Check the resulting new string and make sure only the bits relating to the option you wanted to change have changed.
7. Press "Write" to write the new coding into the control unit and store the changes.
8. Read the "Long Coding" again to confirm the written string matches the one you set, then test the function on the car.
9. If the write is refused, run "Security Access" on the control unit and repeat the operation.
