K-Line cluster 911 996, GT2/GT3 996 and Boxster 986: reading ConfData, Login code and mileage

Porsche Interface Classic Keys / Immo Advanced ⏱ 20-40 min 9 steps

On the K-Line instrument clusters of the 911 996, GT2 996, GT3 996 and Boxster 986 this lets you read the configuration data, obtain the cluster security access code (Login) and read the mileage. The Login code is the data you need for the subsequent immobiliser work.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningAlways save the data you read with "Save to file..." before writing: the write function puts the contents of the hex window back into the cluster. Watch out for the correct variant: [C56] for 1998-07/2001 cars and [C86] for 08/2001-2005.

Procedure

  1. Open the special functions list and select "Instrument Cluster K-Line".
  2. In the model list pick the correct variant: "911 (996), GT2 (996), GT3 (996), Boxter (986) - 1998-07/2001 [C56]" or "911 (996), GT2 (996), GT3 (996), Boxter (986) - 08/2001-2005 [C86]".
  3. Press "Read": the software connects to the instrument cluster and reads the configuration data, which is shown in the hex window.
  4. If the cluster security access code is found, it appears in the text field next to the "Login" label: write it down, you need it for the immobiliser work.
  5. The mileage value read is shown in the field of the "Mileage" section.
  6. Press "Save to file..." to save the data you read to a file.
  7. To write, load the data into the hex window and use the cluster configuration data write function: the contents of the hex window are written into the cluster.
  8. Press "Reset ECU" to carry out a diagnostic reset of the instrument cluster.
  9. To just read the mileage, press "Read" in the "Mileage" section: the value is read in km.
