Reading the Hyundai/Kia PIN from a working key with PROTAG and the TA31 extractor

When you have a working key for the vehicle you can read the PIN using the TA31 extractor together with the original key and the PROTAG programmer. Once you have the PIN you can programme a spare key.

Procedure

1. Open the "Abrites Diagnostics For Hyundai/Kia" software and start the read-PIN-from-working-key function.
2. Connect the PROTAG programmer directly to the PC with the USB cable (no hub or extension in between).
3. Insert the TA31 extractor into the PROTAG and have the vehicle's working key ready.
4. When the software prompts you, remove the TA31 extractor from the PROTAG and insert the working key in its place. If the key is not recognised it is not supported: stop here.
5. Take the working key out of the PROTAG and cycle the ignition to IGN ON 3 times holding the working key and the TA31 extractor together.
6. You can keep the TA31 extractor held against the working key, as shown in the photo in the manual, during the ignition cycles.
7. When the software is ready it asks you to put the TA31 extractor back into the PROTAG: do it and wait.
8. The software displays the PIN code it has read: write it down.
9. With the PIN obtained, move on to the "Key Learning" function to programme the spare key to the vehicle.
