Hyundai/Kia Neutralization: making used modules adaptable (smart system, ECU, ESCL, PDM, immobiliser)

Hyundai/Kia Interface Classic Keys / Immo Advanced ⏱ 30-60 min 9 steps

The "Neutralization" function lets you use second-hand modules on Hyundai/Kia vehicles, unlinking them from the donor car so they can be adapted to another vehicle. It covers both smart key and mechanical key cars.

Required licences

  • HK008
  • HK009

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • ZN041
  • ZN051
⚠ WarningEvery time a neutralization is carried out, the keys have to be re-learned to the vehicle after the neutralised module is fitted. On recent models (Kia Cee'd CD generation, Kia Stinger, Hyundai Santa Fe TMA generation and generally anything built from 2018 onwards) the function requires a connection to the internal CAN via ZN041 or ZN051.

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket, switch the ignition ON and open the Hyundai/Kia software.
  2. Open the "Neutralization" function from the software menu.
  3. Enter the vehicle's PIN, or read it with the read-PIN function directly from the screen.
  4. Press the continue button once the PIN has been read and follow the software's guided prompts.
  5. Check the live data shown in the function window: they show the state of each module (neutralized/active) and the number of initialised keys. Use them to check before and after the operation.
  6. On smart key cars you can neutralise, so they can be adapted to other vehicles: the smart system, the ECU, the ESCL and the PDM (on cars fitted with one).
  7. On mechanical key cars you can neutralise the immobiliser - which automatically neutralises the ECU as well - and the Smart module on cars that have one.
  8. If the software reports that the internal CAN is needed, connect the ZN041 or ZN051 as described in the dedicated B-CAN procedure and start the neutralization again from the beginning.
  9. Fit the neutralised module to the target vehicle and reprogramme all the keys with "Key Learning": without re-learning the keys the vehicle will not work.
