Manual programming of the Ford remote transmitter without a diagnostic tool

A procedure carried out with the ignition key alone, no tool required, to reprogram Ford door remotes. Handy when adding or replacing a remote transmitter.

⚠ WarningAll the vehicle's remotes must be programmed in the same session: any remote not programmed during this procedure stops working. A maximum of 4 remotes can be programmed.

Procedure

  1. Gather all the vehicle's remotes, including the ones already working: they all have to be reprogrammed together.
  2. Cycle the ignition from OFF to RUN 4 times within 6 seconds, ending the fourth cycle in the OFF position.
  3. The system sounds a chime to confirm it has entered programming mode.
  4. Press any button on the first remote.
  5. The system sounds a chime to confirm the remote has been programmed.
  6. Repeat the button press and wait for the confirmation chime for each further remote, up to a maximum of 4.
  7. Turn the ignition to RUN to exit programming mode.
  8. Check locking and unlocking with all the programmed remotes.
