"Connection Error: Interface not connected!" when starting the Ford/Mazda diagnostics

What to check when starting "ABRITES diagnostics for Ford/Mazda" brings up the "Connection Error: Interface not connected!" window and the software cannot see the interface.

Procedure

  1. Check that the USB interface drivers are installed correctly: open Windows Device Manager: the interface must show up as "USB Serial Port (COMxx)", where "xx" is the port number.
  2. If it does not appear, or appears with an error, reinstall the interface drivers.
  3. Unplug and replug the interface USB connector at the PC.
  4. Unplug and replug the interface OBD2 connector at the vehicle's diagnostic socket.
  5. Check that the interface is properly connected to the car and that the diagnostic socket is powered.
  6. Restart the "ABRITES diagnostics for Ford/Mazda" software.
