Key programming on Mercedes Trucks FBS3 (Actros, Axor, Arocs, Setra) with TA69 and ZN003 PROTAG

The FBS Manager for trucks programs keys on Mercedes vehicles with the FBS3 system (Actros, Axor, Arocs, Setra and derivatives of the Actros 963 MP4 platform). The prerequisite is always password extraction from the EIS/EZS, either from a working key or in All Keys Lost.

⚠ WarningTo program a new key the Abrites TA69 IR key is mandatory: no other key can be programmed with the FBS Manager. The ZN003 PROTAG (the ZN002 does NOT support this procedure) and the ZN051 Distribution Box with the fuse relay are mandatory too, otherwise password extraction from the EIS/EZS will not work.
Procedure
Make the required connections: AVDI + CB106 OBDII cable, ZN051 Distribution Box and, for password extraction in All Keys Lost, the fuse relay on fuse 17 or the CB022 jumper (Actros) or CB025 on fuse F61 (Setra).
Open the FBS (DAS) Manager from the Mercedes icon and then the Truck icon and press the "Key" button.
Press "Program key": the software asks you to connect the ZN075 IR adapter. Insert the IR adapter into the EIS/EZS and then remove it, as prompted on screen.
Choose the password extraction method: from a working key or All Keys Lost. Follow the on-screen instructions and connection sequences carefully - they are specific to each step.
METHOD 1 - from a working key (original MB Truck/Bus key only): when prompted, put the working key into the ignition switch and then into the ZN003 PROTAG, repeating the cycle several times until extraction is complete. This method is quicker than All Keys Lost and typically takes between 500 and 1500 extractions.
METHOD 2 - All Keys Lost: place the ZN075 IR adapter into the EIS/EZS and wait for the password to be extracted. It takes longer than the working-key method.
Once the password is extracted, go ahead and program the key using the Abrites TA69 IR key only, inserted in the dedicated truck-key IR slot of the ZN003 PROTAG.
Bear in mind that each EIS/EZS has 8 key positions and the software automatically picks the first free position to program the new key into.
If needed, use the other options in the "Key" menu: "Disable key" to disable a selected key, or the key emulation function through the ZN075 for an emergency start when the truck has to be moved and no keys are available.
Remember that when you program a key, the FBS data is saved automatically into the LOG folder and into the software installation directory: keep it.
