The TA26 sniffer extracts the 7th byte of the component security in a matter of seconds — the byte you need to prepare the dealer key. This is procedure 3.1, used mainly on the VW Passat B6.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
  • PROTAG
  • TA26 Sniffer

Procedure

  1. Open the Abrites Diagnostics for VAG software.
  2. Open the "Key Learning" special function and click on "Autodetect Login/Security code", then read the 6 bytes on the next screen.
  3. Select "Automatically trying to find the 7th byte" and put a virgin key in the programmer.
  4. When prompted, put the TA26 sniffer in the programmer.
  5. Take the key out of the programmer and switch the ignition ON while holding it together with the TA26.
  6. Hold the TA26 up to the ignition switch as shown in the picture in the manual.
  7. When prompted, put the TA26 sniffer back in the PROTAG programmer.
  8. The software starts calculating the 7th byte: wait for the calculation to finish.
  9. Once the 7th byte has been found, put a virgin transponder or key in the programmer to program it.
  10. Carry on with learning the prepared key to the vehicle.
