Brake pad replacement on vehicles with an electric parking brake

VAG Interface Classic Service Basic ⏱ 15-30 min 7 steps

The "Brake pads change" special function is used to retract and re-apply the rear parking brake so the pads can be replaced, and to check that it works once the job is done.

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI

Procedure

  1. Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket and open the "Brake pads change" special function.
  2. Press "Open rear parking brake for pad change" to move the rear parking brake into service position.
  3. Replace the brake pads.
  4. Press "Close rear parking brake" to re-apply the parking brake.
  5. Run "Parking brake function test" to check operation.
  6. On Audi A8 only: also set the pad thickness.
  7. The function is available on Audi A8 2004+, Audi A6/allroad 2005+, Audi Q7 2009+, VW Passat B6 and VW Tiguan 2009+.
