BCM2 A4/A5/Q5/A6/A7/A8: reading the module over OBDII

VAG Interface Classic Keys / Immo Medium ⏱ 20-30 min 8 steps

The mandatory first step for making keys on cars with BCM2 (A4/A5/Q5 from 2008/2009, A6/A7/A8 and Touareg from 2010): reading the BCM2 module directly over OBDII.

Required licences

Hardware / cables

  • AVDI
⚠ WarningIf the procedure is interrupted and, after disconnecting the BCM2 power supply, there is no communication with the module any more, you have to repeat the procedure keeping the car awake by switching the lights on and off.

Procedure

  1. Plug the AVDI into the OBDII socket and start the "BCM2 A4/A5/Q5/A6/A7/A8" special function.
  2. Select the model from the correct group: Audi A4 / A5 / Q5 (no working key needed) or Audi A6 / A7 / A8 / VW Touareg (a working key is needed, including one bought from the dealer).
  3. For the A6 / A7 / A8 / Touareg group only: if you want to learn a virgin key, put the working key into the programmer and press "Read working key". If you only need to re-learn existing keys or learn a key already bought from the dealer, there is no need to press "Read working key".
  4. Step 1: run the BCM type check ("Check BCM type").
  5. Step 2: select the BCM2 read over OBDII.
  6. If all keys are lost a message will appear: at that point disconnect the BCM2 module's power supply for about 2-3 seconds and reconnect it (alternatively unplug the cable from the OBDII socket, disconnect the car battery for 2-3 seconds and plug the OBDII cable back in).
  7. Press "OK". If instead there is a valid key and the ignition is ON, there is no need to cut power to the BCM2.
  8. Once the read is finished the software shows the number of keys present, the power class and the VIN: from here you can move on to key learning.
