Neutralisation lets you reuse second-hand modules on Hyundai/KIA vehicles: a donor module has to be neutralised before it can be adapted to another car. It is done on the car the module belongs to, because the ECU requires the PIN code.
Required licences
HK009
Hardware / cables
AVDI
⚠ WarningThe neutralisation order must be respected: first all the modules to be replaced EXCEPT the SMART SYSTEM, and only at the end the SMART SYSTEM (or the IMMOBILISER on mechanical key cars). If the car is left with the smart system neutralised but the other modules not neutralised, this can cause problems for the vehicle. If you are working on a donor car you must know its PIN code.
Procedure
Check that you have an active HK009 licence. Connect the AVDI to the OBDII socket of the car the module belongs to: neutralisation is done in the module's own car, because the ECU requires the PIN code.
Complete the vehicle selection in the software and open the neutralisation Special Function ("Module Neutralisation"), then choose the method you want from those offered (standard in-car neutralisation or on the bench, HK010).
Get hold of the donor car's PIN code. If you do not know it, read it with the read PIN / key programming function before you start.
Identify the modules to be neutralised according to the key type. On smart key cars you can neutralise: smart system, ECU, ESCL and PDM (on cars fitted with one). On mechanical key cars: immobiliser and Smart module (where fitted).
Neutralise first all the modules you are replacing, excluding the SMART SYSTEM (or the immobiliser on mechanical key cars).
Only as the last step neutralise the SMART SYSTEM with the dedicated procedure, or the IMMOBILISER in the case of mechanical key cars.
Check the status of the module you are working on: you can verify it from the Live Data values or from the information given by the neutralisation procedure itself.
Fit the neutralised module to the target car and carry out the adaptation; for the ECU the PIN code is required at the adaptation stage as well.
Finish with key programming ("Learn Keys"), which acts as module synchronisation after neutralisation or after fitting new modules. If the key comes from the same car you can reprogramme it and reuse it.
If you bought a second-hand ECU off the Internet and have no way of neutralising it in its original car (PIN unknown), use the HK010 bench ECU neutralisation function.
